The first
planting at Domaine Lois Louise contained “micro-vineyards”
planted with different types of vines. The nomenclature “115/101-14”
at the top means that the plot is planted Courderc 101-14 rootstock,
to which Dijon 115 clones are grafted. The four contiguous micro-vineyards
at the top of the page allow us to compare four different Pinot Noir
clones on the same rootstock. The next four micro-vineyards, starting
with 777/3309, allow us to compare the same four clones on 3309 rootstock.
Each micro-vineyard makes two barrels of wine for comparison. The
459 clone on the left side of the picture is already a bust. It produces
a pungently fruity common wine, rather than the refined Pinot Noirs
we are trying to make. We will eventually graft over that part of
the vineyard with our current favorite clone, Dijon 777. |
